Red Jasper is a microcrystalline variety of Quartz with a brick-red colour, hexagonal crystal system and Mohs hardness of 6.5 – 7. Red Jasper is a stone steeped in folklore and spirituality – its name comes from the Greek word ‘iaspi’, meaning spotted stone, hinting at its captivating red flecks held within a Quartz mineral base. In Norse legend, Red Jasper was used to forging Siegfried’s magical sword of dragon-slaying fame, ‘Balmung’. Ancient Egyptians used the stone in Isis amulets gifted to their dead. Native Americans believed it could help conjure rain during ritual ceremonies: earning them an apt title as ‘Rainbringer’.
Red Jasper provides protection and grounding during stressful times, inspiring courage and determination. It can also work to increase the amount of chi, or life force, in one’s energetic field. Red Jasper helps to balance energy flow by unblocking obstructions – restoring vitality. Red Jasper brings physical strength, Root chakra activation, Sacral charka stabilisations, and emotional support in releasing attachment to negative experiences. It reminds us that our most significant contribution lies in aiding others on their journey while helping protect and ground energies in times of stress or difficulty. A powerful healer, Jasper’s main impact is on the physical body strengthening the liver, gallbladder, and bladder.
